The GJB with Jerry Zigmont & Bob Price (GJB 8/20/011) is a live recording of our 2011 summer concert at Music Mountain in Falls Village, Connecticut. The Galvanized Jazz Band has performed annually for appreciative audiences at Music Mountain for approximately 20 years, featuring different guest artists with different styles each year. In 2011 we decided to return to our New Orleans-style roots with trombonist Jerry Zigmont and banjo virtuoso Bob Price. Jerry grew up in the greater New Haven area and earned degrees in performance and Music Education at the University of Connecticut. He “cut his teeth” in regional jazz groups including the 1917 Jazz Band, the New Black Eagles, and the GJB, has toured and recorded with the celebrated British clarinetist Sammy Rimington, and now performs regularly in Manhattan with Woody Allen and the Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band. Bob Price grew up in Stratford, CT, and now resides in Florida. Since his teen years he has earned his living playing banjo, while earning degrees in Philosophy, Music, and Far Eastern History. Although most of Bob’s playing has involved solo work and small groups, Bob is a master at working with the standard New Orleans ensemble. His rendition of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” on this recording was repeated on October 9 in his solo spot at Carnegie Hall. Bob is an artist representative for the Gibson Company.
