More GJB Events (2014-2015)
On September 13 (2015) we were back in Madison at the First Congregational Church, located at 26 Meeting House Lane for a Jazz service from 9:45 to 11 AM, followed by a picnic on the lawn.
On August 29 (2015) we performed for the first time at the Chester Fair from noon until 3 PM, with Skip Hughes. The Fair is on Kirtland Terrace, (just off RT. 154) in Chester, CT, 06412. . . . MAP & DIRECTIONS. . .
On August 15 (2015) we returned to beautiful air-conditioned Gordon Hall at Music Mountain in Falls Village, CT for our 22nd annual concert at the string quartet capital of the universe, (Connecticut's answer to Tanglewood) with special guests Ben Griffin, Skip Hughes, and Mark Vigorito. On July 30th (2015) the Galvanized Jazz Band performed from 7 to 8:15 pm with Skip Hughes, Noel Kaletsky, Sherman Kahn, and Sal Raniello for a large and very enthusiastic audience at Covenant Village, located at 52 Missionary Road, Cromwell, CT.
On July 22 (2015) we were back on the Green in Fairfield for our annual free concert under the stars with trombonist Art Baron and vocalist Cynthia Fabian. MAP & DIRECTIONS
On July 12 (2015) we returned to Butch Butterworth's annual Big Feathers Polo Tournament/Jazz Concert from 6 to 9 pm at the Giant Valley Farm, at 640 Tuttle Avenue in Hamden, with special guests Randy Reinhart on cornet, Tom Artin and Jim Fryer on trombones, Noel Kaletsky on reeds, and Cynthia Fabian, vocals. On May 2 (2015) we returned to Folly Farm in the heart of the Farmington Valley to perform for Ron's Run for the Roses, a Kentucky Derby Day party to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research. Great cause, beautiful location, great food/drink, silent/live auction, and hot jazz from 2:30 to 4 PM. (The fun continued until 7.) The address is 75 Hartford Road in Simsbury, CT, 06070.
On February 17 (2015) the GJB was back in Cheshire for another Mardi Gras concert in Nelson Hall at Elim Park with trombonist-vocalist Skip Hughes. Nelson Hall is a very comfortable 300-seat recital hall with a Steinway grand piano. On February 7 (2015) the GJB performed at the Saybrook Point Inn in a Mardi Gras Gala fundraiser for the Shoreline Arts Alliance with Tom Boates on trombone. There were Louisiana hors d'oeuvres with an open bar and silent auction starting at 6 pm, and a fabulous New Orleans-inspired dinner at 7:30. We marched guests into the ballroom with a Mardi Gras parade at 7PM, and after dinner we played 1920's style hot Jazz until 11 pm. Tickets and Information . . . Map and Directions: . . .
On January 25 (2015) the GJB performed for a standing-room only crowd in the Thornton Wilder Hall, which is part of the Miller Cultural complex (Hamden Library) at 2901 Dixwell Avenue, as part of the Peter C. Hereld Sensational Sunday Performance Series. Our featured guests were Craig Grant, Cynthia Fabian, and Joel Schiavone. The concert hall is handicapped-accessible. General admission to these concerts is $7, or $5 for senior citizens, students, and children 12 and under. Tickets are sold only at the door. On November 25, 2014 the Galvanized Jazz Band, the Mayor of New Haven, Senator Richard Blumenthal, other city leaders and Yale University leadership held a ribbon-cutting parade from Chapel Street to Broadway. It was the grand opening of 7 new stores and restaurants in downtown New Haven, and the GJB led the crowd in New Orleans style. It started at the corner of Chapel & College Streets (across from the Taft Hotel) around 11:30 AM and finished up in a tent on Broadway Island around 12:30PM, where refreshments were served! . . . The 2014 Hot Steamed Festival was June 20-22 at the Essex Steam Train Station. The GJB was there on Friday and Sunday with guest trombonist Ben Griffin. Vocalist Cynthia Fabian and guest cornetist Mark Vigorito joined us for the Friday evening sets. Several other great bands and individual performers were there for the weekend. Band Schedule . . .
